Former Ring of Honor Champion, New Japan Star Michael Elgin Set for Surgery

Former Ring of Honor Champion and current New Japan Pro Wrestling star Michael Elgin will be undergoing surgery on Thursday to repair a fractured orbital bone.

At this past Sunday’s New Japan “King of Pro Wrestling” event, Elgin worked through an eight man tag team match facing the Los Ingobernables de Japon and that is where the injury occurred.  Elgin had initially hoped to work through the injury,  but New Japan insisted that he have it looked at.  Elgin was appreciative of getting the injury investigated in an “unlisted” YouTube video he recorded (originally appeared on

“New Japan’s a huge company, and they wanted me to get it looked at. I mean, it was the right thing because it’s called a blowout fracture of the orbital bone, and basically the bottom of your orbital here [points to eye] gets fractured, and a lot of the tissue that holds your eye into place is coming through the fracture.”

Elgin noted that he is still looking forward to getting his IWGP Intercontinental Championship back and he still plans to challenge Naito at the November 5 “Power Struggle” in a rematch for that title at that event.
