WWE Sets NXT “Takeover” Event for Royal Rumble Weekend

WWE announced on Monday that there will be an NXT “Takeover” event happening the same weekend as the Royal Rumble.  The event will be held at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX on January 26.  Tickets for the event will go on sale Friday, December 2 with a pre-sale starting at 11AM EST on Thursday, December 1.

The Freeman Coliseum has hosted WWE events before, playing host to the 1994 Survivor Series event as well as a “Tuesday in Texas” event in 1991.  In wrestling configuration, the venue is listed to hold 11,700 fans.  The Royal Rumble will take place on January 27 at the Alamodome, also in San Antonio.

Bill Says:  There has been a lot of talk, both officially and unofficially, that NXT would be running a “Takeover” event at each of the big 4 WWE pay per views.  From a business perspective, it makes total sense because the NXT product is hot right now. As always, live reports from the venue are welcome.
