WWE.com is reporting that Zack Ryder suffered a knee injury during the Tag Team Battle Royale last night on WWE Smackdown.
Ryder won the match for his team, The Hype Bros, which awarded he and his partner Mojo Rawley a #1 Contendership to The Wyatt Family’s Smackdown Tag Titles.
As of this writing, not a lot is known about the injury. WWE’s doctor Chris Robinson was quoted in the article, stating “We think he injured his kneecap or his patella. We think it popped out and then popped back in, so we’re just going to do an MRI to make sure that there is not cartilage damage or some tendon tearing, stuff like that. Hopefully there’s not and it’ll be a shorter rehab period. If there is, there’s a different road we might have to go down that may take longer to get him to recover.”
If Ryder is sidelined for a length of time, this is a blow to him, the team, and the tag division as a whole, which is a little thin on credible teams at the moment.
Originally, The Hype Bros were scheduled to participate in a 6-man tag match for the Tribute to the Troops show, which was taped immediately after Smackdown. They were replaced by American Alpha.
More as it develops.
