Matt and Jeff Hardy Make Surprise Appearance at Ring of Honor Event; Win ROH Tag Team Championship

Thank you to site reader Jonathan, who passed along the following note from the ROH “Manhattan Mayhem” event going on tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The Young Bucks defeated Lio Rush and Jay White in their tag team championship match.  After the match, Mat and Jeff Hardy came out and issued a challenge to the Young Bucks for a title match on the spot.  The place went absolutely nuts when the Hardys came out.  The Bucks accepted, and the Hardys ended up winning the ROH Tag Team Championship.

After the match, the Hardys got a mic and cut a promo.  They essentially buried TNA, who as you guys said they just left this week, and went on to say that they will be with Ring of Honor after signing the biggest contracts possible and turned down a chance to go back to WWE.

Bill Says:  Yes, as we reported the Hardys  are now free agents, and this is obviously a very quick development.  Signing with WWE definitely would cause the Hardys to give up an awful lot of their independent contractor status and the flexibility to work their schedule on their terms, something they seem to clearly value these days.  So at least for the immediate, it looks like the Hardys will be working in ROH, which does allow them some of that same flexibility that they have at present.

This is a huge shot in the arm for ROH because the ROH fan base will understand and embrace what the Hardys do, plus it keeps ROH on the radar despite losing some big name talents of late.  They are running a Wrestlemania weekend event on April 1, and the Bucks and Hardys will be on that card.  It will definitely  help sell tickets up against WWE’s biggest show of the year.

We’d love more details and information on this and all of the night’s happenings in Manhattan, so email me – bwentz@ring-rap.com.
