MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Bellator MMA has signed a former UFC announcer and a former WWE commentator in time for their Madison Square Garden pay per view event. The promotion today announced that Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo have been signed to create a new booth for the event. Bellator NYC will take place on June 24 on pay per view, with an additional fight card that will air on Spike TV prior to the pay per view broadcast.
The signing marks Mike Goldberg’s return to Spike TV, where he spent many years as the voice of UFC while the promotion aired on the network. Along side his two decades of work with UFC, Goldberg also was a broadcast voice in the National Hockey League and in the National Football League. He was released from his UFC contract in 2016 when the company elected to not renew his deal and go in another direction.
With his signing, Mauro Ranallo will be reunited with Scott Coker, who he worked with at Showtime when the Strikeforce promotion was still in existence. Ranallo has extensive fight sports experience, having worked with boxing, the PRIDE promotion, Strikeforce, and most recently a stint as the play by play voice of the Smackdown brand for WWE. Ranallo will continue to work with Showtime Boxing going forward.
In a statement, Bellator MMA president Scott Coker said, ““Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo are two of the best in our business and I couldn’t be happier about them joining the Bellator family. In addition to June 24, we look forward to working together to make future Spike broadcasts even more exciting for our fans as we add further depth to an already-exceptional broadcast team.”
