ESPN.com, along with other pro wrestling outlets, is reporting that two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was hospitalized over the weekend for heart related issues. His management team took to social media to note that the 68-year old Flair is dealing with “tough medical issues.” Flair noted in his autobiography “To Be the Man” that he suffers from a condition called alcoholic cardiomyopathy, a condition that stems from alcohol abuse. Alcohol damages the myocardium, and it can no longer efficiently pump blood. Heart failure can occur from this condition.
ProWrestlingSheet.com noted that Flair was admitted to an intensive care unit on Saturday for a heart issue. Originally, his management team said that the admission was for routine monitoring and there was no reason to panic, but that tone changed in a tweet from Melinda Morris Zanoni on Monday where she asked for prayers for the two-time Hall of Famer.
Michael Hayes, a current producer for WWE, also noted on Twitter that he had the opportunity to visit Ric before heading to Boston for Raw and reiterated the need to support Flair at this time.
At this time, not much is known about Flair’s exact condition, but our best wishes to him and his family as they deal with this situation. If any further information comes out we will pass it along.
